Man… will the Twitter insanity ever stop?

I am starting to see more and more “Get 89,891,907 LOYAL Twitter Followers by Doing Absolutely Nothing!” programs floating around.  There’s that ViralFollowers crap Which, by the way, is awfully similar to...» and then there’s Brad Callen’s (a guy I respect by the way) TwiveAway…

The concept of these two tools is, “RT this message, tell others to RT this software, and you’ll have tons of followers.

I am sure there are a ton more tools like these out there and a LOT more coming.

OMGWTFBBQ it’s gotta stop!

Think about the mentality of those folks who buy into software like these.  These folks are the ones who have something they want to shout out to the world, and NOT interested in listening to what others have to say.  These are the folks who think, “Woohhh, if I had 38 bazillion followers, I’ll have that many more folks to spam with my Tweets.“  They are NOT the type of folks who think, “Hmm, the folks I am following are those whom I genuinely care about and are interested in – I’ll pay attention to their Tweets.”

So when you have 89,098 followers (and end up following 89,997 Twitters) who have that same mentality, what do you get?

Nothing!  These folks just contribute to Twitter becoming more and more of a “Shout Box”.

Your Tweets that go out to your 5 gazillion followers fall on deaf ears because they are too busy Tweeting their own messages (which you ignore, much like how they are ignoring yours).

LAMMMEEE!

Now, before I piss of some folks and have them send the Mafia after me, I’ll add that there are folks out there whom I respect and whom I associate with who have bought into this crap-pile-ooza.  I hope that it’s their temporary lapse of judgment concerning this matter and I shall not hold it against them… for too long.

Heck, maybe I am way off base here and there IS something of value in all this Twitter non-sense.  But until I am proven wrong, I am going by my gut feeling, good senses, and my “Magic 8-Ball”.
