No More Twitter App! Disconnecting Twitter from Facebook

By

There’s a Twitter application for Facebook that I’ve been using for the past month or two. The application takes the messages you post on Twitter and makes that your status on Facebook.

Originally I thought that was a good idea – figuring, “Hey, two birds with one stone!” but thinking about it again, I decided it wasn’t such a great idea after all and here’s why…

Say Bye-Bye to Twitter App

The intent of Twitter and Facebook, while on the top level are similar (both are social media platforms), are still dissimilar enough that how you treat them need to be distinguished to some extent.

Whereas Facebook is a multi-faceted platform that allows for different mediums (i.e. photos, videos, notes, gifts, flowers, etc.), Twitter has mainly one function – posting notes (a.k.a. Tweeting).

Twitter is DOMINATED by tweets, it’s part of the culture… it’s what people CAME to Twitter to do. However, Facebook is not. Facebook is not about dominating the world with “what are you up to now?” and constant side conversations (which I like to call “Open IMing” – the ones that include the @name function).

After reviewing my wall the past week or two, I noticed that my page is DOMINATED by my Twitter updates (since I update on Twitter quite a bit), thereby hiding all other mediums on my wall and making it look, well… crappy.  It got to the point where I almost felt like I was spamming Facebook!

Facebook wasn’t designed to be dominated by chatters (unlike Twitter) which is why I decided to divorce the two.  Your options...» It was good while it lasted… but like most Hollywood marriages, it was good on the surface for a bit, but the deep-seeded problems finally surfaced and it just wasn’t going to work out.

P.S. Since I update via Ping.FM a lot less frequently, I’ll try using that for Facebook for now.

You can either just delete the application period, or go to “Twitter Settings” under Application Settings (in Facebook) and tell it to “Never publish any stories from Twitter.

Thank goodness – all my friends can now enjoy my silence. At least the facebook ones!
Greatful for the tip – the solution sounds so obvious after the delete function has been pointed out.
