Google Friend Connect – Adding the Social Bar
ByI just added the Google Friend Connect social bar to my blog, you can see evidence of this:

I thought it was soooooo neat, I decided to put together a quick video tutorial showing you how to install on YOUR Wordpress blog.
And of course, considering how Google’s planning a hostile take over of social media, it’d make sense for you to pay close to attention to their every move especially if you are concerned with SEO 2.0 whatsoever. And quite frankly, here’s my take (review if you will) on the Social Bar. It’s friggin’ cool.
That is… if you don’t mind allowing Google to become the larger BEHEMOTH that it already is. You see, Google’s plan is to become a major player in the social media scene (and to track all the social media activities), and GFC is part of its master plan. Social Bar makes it easy for your visitors to join your blog THROUGH Google’s GFC.

I like the new bar, but do you have to keep the bar and regular GFC widget or can I just pick one? It seems like they do the same job..
And what’s with the footer capture pop-up? I saw that on Jim’s blog, have you seen good results so far? Has you capture increased?

I just tested it, you do NOT need the GFC widget to run the Social Bar, so that might save some load time.
As for the footer bar, it’s a cool lil’ tool I am testing out: http://www.ultimate-footerad.com

Hi, thanks for the video – I followed these instructions but seem to get a blank bar at the bottom of my page. . . . any ideas?
Hi Franz,
If you are adding it to the bottom of your website, there’s an additional line you need to enter in your header.php file, this is the DTD line that will need to REPLACE the existing DTD line of code that’s already in your header.php file.

Great, I just went through my entire site setting up my links and no follow links, and then come by your blog and find out it all changed and that it doesn’t matter if I no follow or not.
It feels like one of those shoot the messenger situations.
Great work on SEO Networker by the way. I just finished week eight. I loved every minute of it and can’t wait for more.
